HMRC have announced that the Agent Dedicated Line for Self Assessment and PAYE will only be available in January for complex Self Assessment questions.

The Agent Dedicated Line for Self Assessment and PAYE is a dedicated helpline that Tax Agents can use to discuss issues with HMRC. The line will face an increase in calls in January, leading up to the 31 January Self Assessment deadline. With already struggling service levels, this has led HMRC to limit the type of calls that will be answered. The restriction is:

  • Only agents with complex questions specifically related to Self Assessments will be allowed to use the line.
  • The restrictions are in place from 1 January 2023 to 31 January 2023.

The line will be open 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday only. The number is 0300 200 3311.

All other calls should go through the normal HMRC customer helplines, but agents should expect delays in the calls being answered.

HMRC are highlighting their digital options for agents requiring assistance:

  • Agent Dashboard or When to expect a reply; this tool is updated weekly for response times for a number of different query types.
  • Income Record Viewer; as part of the Agent Services Account, the viewer allows agents to access information on their clients' PAYE, employment records, income and pensions.
