Overview 

Coronavirus related grants and tax havens

  • As for Sotland, in Wales coronvirus related grants will not be provided to any business which is owned by a company or individual(s) resident in a tax haven.

Non-domestic rates relief

  • There is full relief for businesses in either retail, leisure and hospitality businesses as well as businesses with a rateable value of £500,000 and above.

Business grants

  • Businesses in retail, hospitality and leisure can apply for a grant of £25,000. This is provided the rateable value of their property is between £12,001 and £51,000.
  • Businesses that have a rateable value of less than £12,000 can apply for a grant of £10,000.
  • Small businesses employing up to nine people can apply for a grant of up to £10,000.
  • Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) employing between 10 and 249 people can apply for a grant of up to £100,000.

Small charities' grant

  • It applied to small charities within the retail, leisure and hospitality sector.
  • There is a grant of £10,000 where the rateable value of £12,000 or below.
  • Applications will need to be made and details will be released on the Welsh government site.

Culture resilience fund

  • Short-term support to museums, collections, self-employed conservation services, archives and libraries.

Arts resilience fund

  • £7 million of funds are available to those that are affected by the Coronavirus.
  • The first round of urgent response fund for individuals closed on 20 April 2020. This was available to freelance artists and creative practitioners.
  • The stabilisation fund for individuals is open for applications until 15 June 2020. This is for freelance artists and creative practitioners trying to survive the threat to their livelihoods.
  • The stabilisation fund for organisations applications closed on 8 May 2020 and was available to non-profit sectors.

Creative Wales emergency relief funds

This is split into:

  • Support during the coronavirus crisis.

  • Development funding for the TV industry for indigenous independent production companies.
  • Emergency digital development funding is available for games, animation, digital agencies and creative digital businesses.

Sports emergency relief fund

  • A grant programme to support small and vulnerable sports organisations.

Economic resilience Fund

  • This has been paused by the Welsh government due to the large number of applicants.
  • Funding had increased to £300 million.

Development Bank of Wales

  • This has been fully subscribed.
  • £100 million in total and more than 1,500 applicants.

Assistance for farmers

Fisheries grant

  • A grant calculated by vessel size, with a maximum payment of £10,000.
  • Open to all active seafood businesses with Welsh-licenced vessels and recorded sales of £10,000 or more in 2019.
  • Registration via Rural Payments Wales.

Support Finder 

  • The Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has created a COVID support Finder tool that individuals and companies can use to identify applicable benefits.
