The government has launched a new campaign to assist people with their everyday tax affairs. It is designed to build knowledge in areas such as tax basics, working life, small businesses and retirement. This comes in the same week as the first 'Tax Awareness Week', which is led by the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

Get Tax Confident
The 'Tax Confident' website is aimed at filling in the gaps in taxpayers' knowledge in various aspects of tax. The goal is to improve the understanding of tax, removing jargon and complicated technical language often associated with the subject.
The website is divided into the following easy-to-navigate sections:
- Tax basics
- Covering topics such as PAYE, Simple Assessment and Self Assessment.
- Working life
- Covering topics such as changing jobs and tax, earning from a 'Side hustle' and tax when you buy a home.
- Small businesses
- Covering topics such as setting up as a Sole trader, setting up a limited company and record-keeping.
- Retirement
- Covering topics such as working while receiving a pension, how the state pension works and understanding Inheritance Tax.
Additionally, there is a 'getting more support' section which outlines how taxpayers can use the HMRC app to examine tax codes, find their National Insurance number and check how much tax they owe.
The site also highlights that HMRC have an extra support team on hand to support those who may need help filling out forms or needing some extra assistance.
Tax Awareness Week
The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) have launched their first 'Tax Awareness Week', running from 9-13 March 2026.
Tax Awareness Week is designed to increase public understanding of tax obligations, the benefits of using a tax adviser, and the resources available, while showcasing the wide range of careers in taxation.
