HMRC have launched a new online form for agents, allowing them to register for access to support while preparing for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax.

HMRC intend to offer a range of services for agents who express an interest in the service via the online form. Depending on the level of engagement from agents, HMRC plan to provide several activities to support readiness for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for IT), including email support, direct support and group sessions via Microsoft Teams.

Agents will be required to sign in via their Agent Services Account. They will then need to indicate:

  • If they are happy to be contacted by email.
  • How many of their clients will be affected by MTD for IT.
  • How many clients are currently testing MTD for IT.
  • They are interested in having a conversation with HMRC about MTD for IT readiness and testing.

Agents without an Agent Services Account can still register an interest via their normal Government Gateway account, although contact details will need to be provided manually.

Once processed, HMRC's engagement with the agent will be tailored depending on the agent's needs. Agents with a greater number of clients affected by MTD will be given priority.

Additionally, in July 2025, HMRC published Online support aimed at educating those affected by the upcoming changes. Agents are encouraged to direct clients to this content.
